5 fun things to do outdoors in Surrey this month

Swim outside (yes, really)
Guildford Lido opens again in April for its summer season. Set in four and a half acres of landscaped grounds and heated to a balmy 24 degrees centigrade, the Olympic-sized pool is ideal for chilling out and serious swimming.

Soak up the bluebells
April sees the bluebells begin to smile at us and here in Surrey we are blessed with many beautiful carpets of these glorious flowers. Try Ranmore Common for a fab bluebell walk or the National Trusts Little Wix Wood at Hatchlands.

Assault a course
An exciting new outdoor fitness centre has opened over at Bletchingley. Take Shape comprises a unique ten-acre outdoor gym including a natural assault course. It is also surrounded by fields, a golf course and the country footpaths of the North Downs. Tel: 07803 002236.

Family-friendly cycling
I love cycling in Richmond Park with my children (you can hire the bikes there if you dont want to take your own). Its about six miles around the outside of the park, with stunning surroundings, deer roaming free and plenty of places for a picnic.

Join in an Easter Egg hunt
Take the children to Birdworld near Farnham on Wednesday April 7 for the annual Easter Egg hunt. There are 26 aviaries and acres of grounds in which to wander, safari rides, underwater worlds and a play area. Tel: 01420 22140.

Go for Yoga

Theres word of a new holistic centre that has opened in Reigate.
Ideal for all-round well-being plus delicious therapies, the Yoga Ananda Holistic Centre offers yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and dance classes, while the therapy rooms enable you to have delicious treats such as massages (holistic, Swedish, Thai and more), acupuncture and the Alexander technique, among others.
It all sounds a marvellous way of de-stressing! Tel: 01737 222400.

Soak up the sun

Every time you go outside, the body gets the chance to create vital vitamin D from the suns UVB rays. Without this, our bones can become thin, soft, brittle or misshapen. You need from five to 30 minutes exposure to the skin on your face, arms, back or legs at least twice a week. And longer during the winter. Coming along to our boot camp is ideal, but even a walk in the sun (do use sunscreen if planning to be out for some time) will help your body do its work.

Top tip!

If you end up feeling stressed a lot of the time, why not try meditation? You will be really amazed by the calming benefits.

Kates motivational quote of the month

"Happiness is a journey not a destination. There is no better time to be happy than now. Live and enjoy the moment."
