WHAT TO EXPECT…

A vast, 45,000 sq ft, purpose-built haven of pure relaxation adjacent to one of Surrey’s finest country house hotels, and set in 123 acres of rolling Surrey parkland.

The five star facilities include eight indoor and outdoor pools (one with underwater music), a thermal heaven heat experience (multiple saunas, steam rooms, ice room and plunge pool), spa restaurant, a separate VIP suite for private parties and a fabulous selection of spa treatments (and twenty-one treatment rooms to experience them in!).

The spa is open from 6am to 10pm to hotel residents, members and day spa guests so why not book a day out of your diary and take some time to unwind.

AMBIENCE…

The spa décor has Moorish influences with acres of stone, marble, wood, lanterns and columns everywhere you look. The changing area is the biggest and most ornate I’ve ever seen and I was glad to be handed a spa map because I needed it to find my way around (all that chilling out made my sense of direction a bit fuzzy!). The atmosphere is relaxed - as you might expect - but not overly quiet and you can choose to use mixed facilities or opt for those specifically for men or women if you prefer. Lunch – in the big, airy dining area - was delicious: plentiful, healthy and really tasty. Keeping with the theme, I ordered the Moroccan lamb and found it was beautifully tender and perfectly seasoned.

TREATMENT TESTED…

The Spa Aromatherapy Massage (using the spa’s own range of aromatherapy oils): an hour-long treatment in which I just about managed to stay awake (a fundamental skill for a spa reviewer). I have never seen such a beautifully presented treatment room (complete with marbled shower and heated bed) and my therapist was expertly skilled at delivering a really effective treatment.

COST…

Spa visits from Monday to Friday are priced per day, and include a welcome smoothie and a two-course lunch as well as use of all the facilities. Prices start at £180, which includes a one hour treatment. There’s also a range of Spa Day Packages from £110.

VERDICT…

There’s lots of fun to be had exploring. The underwater music inspired my inner mermaid, I managed the somewhat invigorating challenge of submerging myself completely in the cold water plunge pool (mainly because I’d dropped my glasses and had to retrieve them from the bottom), and the indoor/outdoor heated pool made us feel like a couple of very contented Japanese snow monkeys. Personally, I’d have preferred a couple of the sauna rooms to be a teeny bit hotter, but the steam room certainly made up for it! If you want luxury, indulgence and acres of space, this is the spa for you.
