Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital has received an overall good rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in November 2016.
The CQC’s published report highlighted a number of good and outstanding practices at the Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital including patient care being at the heart of the service, with patients reporting staff to be positive, compassionate, engaging, helpful and respectful.
The report also highlighted the hospital’s child-friendly approach, and commended the hospital for its publications aimed at explaining the hospital experience to children, with leaflets featuring ‘Nuffy’ the Bear, child-friendly language and cartoon pictures.
The Guildford-based hospital also scored highly for its dementia strategy, with initiatives in place to remind staff that particular patients may require additional assistance - for example, using blue pillowcases on the beds of patients with dementia and memory problems as a visual aid to staff, and also having four patient rooms on the ward as designated dementia friendly rooms.
In addition, the CQC singled out the hospital’s written and pictorial induction and resource tool for housekeeping staff as an example of outstanding practice, ensuring the ‘highest standards of common excellence, cleanliness and consistency throughout the working environment.’
