Whats the secret of your success?
I believe that the strength of a brand is based on the passion behind it. After nearly two decades, I am still truly passionate about the cut and quality of my designs I insist that all my gowns are hand-crafted here in the UK.
How has bridal fashion changed?
The whole approach to wedding gowns has changed and, these days, bridal wear is more fashion-led and relaxed. More weddings are now taking place in venues that are not historical places of worship and this has allowed couples to be far more creative.
What attracted you to bridal wear?
As a child, I always loved making clothes, and my mother encouraged me from very early on. My desire to design is based on my love of sculpture, art and the beauty of fabrics. Bridal wear appealed to me because the bridal gown is the most important one a woman will invest in.
How do you stay ahead of the game?
I believe our cut, which is based on creating fantastic shapes to enhance a womans figure, combined with the care we take in creating each individual gown, assures our clients of a truly stunning result.
Are there any secrets to the perfect dress?
When a bride is choosing her gown, she must think carefully about the image she wants to create for the day. Some brides have a classic vision, others romantic and soft etc. The overall impact of the dress is the most important thing to decide and after this everything gets easier.
What are the major current trends in wedding dress design?
I love to watch the way fashion moves and incorporate the trends into my collection. Although I base my designs around the classics, they all have a contemporary feel. My 2010 collection is all about relaxed feminine glamour.
Are there any limits to what you can do with a wedding dress?
There are no limits to what you can do. There will always be your traditional bride, who is after the classic big white dress, but brides have the flexibility to be more relaxed with their gown of choice these days.
Have you ever had any particularly outlandish/garish requests?
We get many brides making special requests for certain styles that are currently fashionable. We would always advise our brides to choose a classic gown with a contemporary twist over a cutting edge one, because we do not want them to look back in a few years and feel that it is already dated!
Is there someone you hope to one day design a dress for?
I would have loved to have designed a wedding dress for Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She was a style icon and I would have designed some outstanding gowns for her she understood cut tailoring and simplicity wed have been a good team. Looking to the future, I would like to design the wedding dress for Kate Middleton Id make her look truly unforgettable!
