Having recently named Richmond as his favourite place in the world, Sir David Attenborough is set to be awarded the borough's highest honour in recognition of his contribution to natural history and film making, as well as local charities and organisations.
With a career that has spanned 60 years as a naturalist and broadcaster, the long time Richmond resident has established himself as the world’s leading natural history programme maker, with several landmark television series.
“Sir David Attenborough is enormously respected and liked, not only in this borough but across the country,” says Lord True, leader of Richmond Council.
“For a man who has crawled through dung heaps, climbed mountains and explored our seas, to say that Richmond is the best place to live is an honour for all of us. I do, of course, agree.”
The Freedom of the Borough ceremony will be held on Thursday March 27.
