Since 1875, SANDOWN PARK in Esher has provided all the thrills and spills youd expect from one of the countys top racing locations. These days, attendees visit for everything from Simply Red concerts to carp shows, with a few horse races in between, of course

What are your hopes for your business in 2010?
Sandown Park is a mature business offering a diverse mixture of racing and non-racing products.Several revenue streams have enjoyed growth during 2008 and 2009, and we will be working towards maintaining this momentum throughout 2010.Alongside this, additional support will be focused towards those areas of the business that have been less buoyant during the economic downturn.

What plans do you have to develop your business in 2010?
Consolidation will be a key strategy to not only maintain but grow our market share. We have recently embarked upon a joint venture by establishing an in-house catering company and will be developing a Truly Local concept in 2010 to integrate more regional and seasonal produce into our menus. The staging of major music nights will also continue to play a significant role in the racecourse calendar, building upon the successes of 2009 when the likes of Simply Red played to a sell-out crowd.

What sets your business apart from your competitors?
We pride ourselves on the pursuit of quality, while delivering value for money this is exemplified in many aspects of our varied business but nowhere more so than in the making of history in July 2009 when the worlds highest rated racehorse, Sea The Stars, won The Coral-Eclipse on Esher turf in front of a packed crowd. We also strive for innovation, be it in our racing or non-racing products.

Who are your customers?
Sandown Park appeals to an incredibly wide range of customers due to the nature of the business. From the attendees of the annual Carp Show, Christmas Party Night guests, Music Night devotees and pure racing fans to conference organisers, filming agents and hospitality clients, we get all sorts at the racecourse. We also work closely with charities, be it in association with race nights or non-racing events. The majority of our customers are, however, local with our marketing very much focused upon the Surrey area. Not forgetting racehorses of course, who are obviously our key customers!

How do you see 2010 developing?
The current marketplace is clearly difficult to predict but we are certainly looking to build upon current levels of hospitality business, hopefully in conjunction with the improved wellbeing of the economy.

What is your business mantra?
Sandown Parks mission is to exceed customer expectations, which we strive to deliver via our focus on quality, value for money and innovation. We will be looking to continue to provide a range of products ,which utilise the estate to its maximum potential, as well as to further understand our customers in order to satisfy their needs.

What is the best thing about doing business in Surrey?
One of the most satisfying parts is the fact a large number of our customers come from within our locality. We also enjoy existing local partnerships, such as that with House of Fraser Guildford and regional schools, and will continue to develop these in 2010.
