There is a special need for us to recapture our traditional skills in science and engineering and I will be supporting initiatives for young people in these areas, says Michael Joy, pictured right, with (l-r) Revd Graham Shaw; former High Sheriff Rob Douglas; Lord Lieutenant Sarah Goad and the Very Revd Victor Stock.
I will also support and nurture the High Sheriffs Youth Awards Scheme, which is designed to give recognition and financial support to young people working on projects that assist good citizenship and promote crime reduction within Surrey.
Today, the High Sheriff is largely a ceremonial role, but still the oldest secular office in England other than the Crown, and he or she is officially the Queens legal representative in the county.
