A number of Team GB athletes celebrating Paralympic success - gold, silver and bronze - have Surrey connections, whether born or based in our county. A few of our London 2012 heroes are mentioned here...

A number of Team GB athletes celebrating Paralympic success - gold, silver and bronze - have Surrey connections, whether born or based in our county. A few of our London 2012 heroes are mentioned here...


  • David Weir, who featured in Julys Surrey Life magazine, lives in Wallington and came away with an incredible four gold medals in theT54 class of the 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m and marathon.

  • Chertsey born and bred 16-year-old swimmer Hannah Russell took silver in the 400m freestyle S12, bronze in the 100m backstroke S12 and she also came third in the 100m butterfly S12.

  • Born in Redhill, Helena Lucas won gold in the 2.4mR sailing class.

  • Team mate Alexandra Rickham, originally from Kingston, Jamaica, but now living in Epsom, won bronze with Niki Birrell in the Skud sailing.

  • Cyclist Rachel Morris was born in Guildford and lives in Farnham. She took bronze in the womens individual cycling road race.

  • Guildford born Olivia Breen was part of the womens 4x100m team who took bronze behind Russia and China.
