When was the club set up?
In 1991.

How often do you meet?
During rehearsals for our main production, we meet twice a week for about three months. We also go on theatre trips up to London about twice a year.

Whats the best thing about being a member of the club?
We get the chance to perform a variety of parts in Shakespeares plays regardless of experience. Inexperienced actors are as welcome as those with wider experience. We are a diverse group of people with a shared love of the works of Shakespeare. Our company offers a real opportunity to take part in community theatre under the guidance of a professional director.

Do you find being surrounded by like-minded individuals inspiring?
It is incredibly stimulating to act with more experienced people and is a great learning opportunity. Also, we work in a relaxed atmosphere, which helps the less experienced to perform with confidence.

How many members do you have?
50.

Do you have links with other clubs?
We have links with a number of the amateur theatre groups in and around Farnham as many of our members belong to several societies.

Whats the most interesting story from the groups history?
Since its inception, the Farnham Shakespeare Company has had professional artistic directors for all its Shakespeare plays. Our directors have worked at the National Theatre, the RSC in Stratford and many local professional theatres

and the funniest?
For the first few years of the companys life, we used to perform in the library gardens in Farnham. On a particularly wet and stormy night, when cast and audience were drenched, the show had to stop. BUT, undaunted, the cast and a few of our most stalwart supporters took shelter in the beer tent where we finished the play (As You Like It) and were rewarded with truly appreciative applause!

When is your next event that is open to the public/potential
new members?

We are performing A Midsummer Nights Dream in the Performing Arts Centre at Frensham Heights School from July 2124. There will be four evening performances starting at 8pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Describe your club in five words
Fun! Friendly! Exciting! Challenging! Fulfilling!
