Describe your business to us
Drm UK is a Byfleet-based specialist in design, supply and installation of the finest quality saunas, steam rooms, steam showers and wet rooms, which we founded nine years ago. We shared a vision of offering leisure products of unsurpassed quality to enhance peoples lifestyle and wellbeing. A native Swede, I have now lived in the UK for many years and specialised in small business start-up projects. Now, aged 45, I have seen Drm UK progress from supplying standard products and private residences to a situation where many top architects and designers approach for major projects, including exclusive residential properties, boutique and spa hotels, health clubs and corporate facilities.

What has been your secret to surviving the recession?
The recession hasnt affected us too harshly, as we are in a niche market and in an area where the clientele appreciate the finer things in life.

Recent research by Business Link, the Government-funded business advice service, showed that one in four of Surreys small and medium sized businesses are preparing for better times would you agree?
Yes, we can see an upward trend in business.

Whats the most unusual thing about your business?
Every client is different, there is no such thing as a standard product or installation. Our reputation now precedes us, so when an individual, architect or designer wants to install a sauna or steam room facility, we are often already on their list. We can handle projects of any size but we do seem to be selected for the more exclusive projects.

Would you have any particular advice for someone who wanted to start their own company? To a budding entrepreneur we would say: follow your dream, investigate the market and offer the best possible products and service. Dont be tempted to be too price driven, even in a downturn. Work hard, always be prepared to move up a gear, keep on top of everything and dont let your standards slip.

What do you most enjoy about doing business in Surrey?
Our customers in Surrey certainly do seem to have an appreciation of the quality of life, the finer things in life and living life to the full. Our products are therefore very well received in this market.

Tell us your hopes for your business during the year ahead?
For the year ahead, we plan to continue the development and growth of the company.
