At 160 feet, looking out from the top of Guildford Cathedral, Vicki Smith felt her legs turn to jelly.

With a gulp and her heart hammering, she stepped over the edge into the void, praying that the ropes would hold as she swayed in the wind like a spider on two gossamer strands.

I was excited and nervous, says Vicki, the clinical director at Absolute Aesthetics, who did the abseil at the beginning of the month. I havent got a great head for heights and it was cold and windy.

The worst bit was stepping over the edge of the platform, knowing there were only the ropes to hold you. But it was an amazing feeling and though the adrenaline was pumping, it gave me a real sense of freedom.

Safely back on firm ground, Vickis efforts, together with those of two colleagues from Guildfords Absolute Aesthetics Clinic, raised 1,000 for Action for Children, which helps the UKs most vulnerable.
