Name of club: Zumba Mania Reigate (with Katherine Woodgate)
Person interviewed: Katherine Woodgate
Role: Zumba instructor (ZIN)
Been a member for: Since 2009
In a nutshell: Its fun and fitness rolled into one! With easy-to-follow moves, we dance to international music such as salsa, cumbian, reggaeton, merengue, banghra, tango and samba. We aim to bring health and happiness together as we burn calories, energise our mind and body and make some great friends along the way.
Joined because I have always liked dancing and fitness and, after my three children were born, I desperately needed to get back into shape but with limited time wanted something that I was going to enjoy! I was introduced to Zumba by a friend and that was it... I was hooked!

When was the club set up?
I was looking for a new career and wanted to keep fitness and dance in my life. I started a fitness qualification, gained my licence to teach Zumba and then in August 2009 opened my own Zumba classes in Reigate. Since then, I have also gained a licence to teach Zumba Gold (lower intensity), Zumbatomic (for four to 12-year-olds), Zumba Toning and Zumba Gold Toning.

How many members do you have?
Across all the classes, approximately 140 people join in the fun at some point during the week. They range in age from 16 through to 60 plus.

How often do you meet?
On Mondays, at Coleman Redland Centre in Croydon Road, Reigate, from 7.45pm to 8.40pm (Zumba); on Wednesdays at Sandcross School in Sandcross Lane, Reigate, 7.30pm to 8.25pm (Zumba) and 8.30pm to 9.15pm (Zumba Toning); on Fridays in the Lindley Sports Centre at Reigate College, Rushworth Road, Reigate, 7pm to 7.55pm (Zumba); and on Saturdays at Coleman Redland Centre, Croydon Road, Reigate, 8.30am to 9.25am (Zumba).

Whats the best thing about being a member of the club?
Being able to teach Zumba to such a great group of people. The energy they bring to class each week is amazing and the high they leave on electric!

Do you find being surrounded by like-minded individuals inspiring?
Definitely! Zumba brings together people from different backgrounds each with their own set of goals; whether thats to get fit, keep fit, lose weight, tone up, meet new friends, dance or re-energise themselves. By combining health and happiness, Zumba really makes a difference to those who experience it and its wonderful being in a room with so many friendly and motivated people.

Have you got links with other clubs?
Yes, we often take part in charity events known as Zumbathons giving us the opportunity to Zumba with other groups and instructors, which is always a fantastic experience.

Whats the most interesting story from the groups history?
When the class was first set up, Zumba was relatively new in the UK. If there were six of us in class, we were happy! Now Zumba has grown in popularity and the classes are bulging at the seams! I am happy to say, the original six still come to class and I feel privileged to Zumba with them every week.

and the funniest?
We were once locked out of a venue and, determined not to miss the class, we decided to Zumba in the playground!

When is your next event that is open to potential new members?
New members are welcome to join our classes at any time its 5 per class and you can just drop in.

Describe your club in five words...
Fun and fitness in one!
