Creating abstract multimedia artworks with very human influences, Wonersh-based artist Katy Sudderick, 45, has been making quite a name for herself and has an exhibition coming up this month in Shalford.

My work focuses on the observation and detailed drawing of the human anatomy, inspired by the skeleton and watching surgeons performing operations, says Katy.

These anatomical images are then translated into large abstract collages, which include embroidered fabrics, enamel, beading and metalwork, among other things.

Katy first became interested in art when her children were small and she started to go to evening classes to escape her three under three-year-olds.

I had intended to pursue an MSc at the London School of Economics, she says. However, it was suggested that I go to art school. I applied to Central St Martins College of Art & Design and was accepted.

To date, her proudest achievement is having her work displayed at the V&A and Imperial College in London, but with such original influences in her work, who knows where the future might lead.

Ive worked with several surgeons at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in the past and at present I am working with a neurosurgeon at Charing Cross Hospital in London, she adds.

  • Katy Sudderick will be displaying her work at the Red Biddy Gallery, Shalford GU4 8JU (01483 303346) from Tuesday September 7.
