As the annual Surrey Artist of the Year exhibition came to a close at the end of October at the New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, an artist from West Molesey had every reason to celebrate.

I was absolutely thrilled to have been voted Surrey Artist of the Year, says Tessa Pearson. I am really pleased to think that so many members of the public took the time to vote for me, and chose my work.

Tessa beat off stiff competition from Amanda Cobbett and Fiona Millais, as well as ten other artists, to claim the crown won last year by Leatherhead artist Stuart Stanley. Funnily enough, Tessa will also be leaving her home of 20 years near Hampton Court Palace to move to the Mole Valley soon, too.

I am planning a new studio to be
built at our new Effingham house, she says. I cant wait to plant my long dreamed of artists garden with all the plants and colours I love right outside my studio window.

If all goes smoothly, the new studio should be ready by next June for Surrey Artists Open Studios 2013 and now Tessa is hoping that it will help inspire her to create some new work for her solo show at the New Ashgate Gallery, which forms part of the Surrey Artist of the Year prize alongside 1,000.
