Celebrating the tenth anniversary of Surrey Artists Open Studios: Saturday June 5 to Sunday June 20
With the annual Surrey Artists Open Studios event only just around the corner, many local artists are busy putting the finishing touches to their works and getting their studios in order.
One such artist is Sue Relph, who will be displaying a variety of portraiture in her conservatory studio and throughout her Thorpe home.
Her garden, which often provides inspiration for her work, will also offer a tranquil haven for teatime refreshments during the event.
I work in expressive and mainly representational paintings and drawings of the human face, says Sue, 65. I take part in the Open Studios to publicise my work, and especially my portraiture.
The event provides many opportunities, including meeting possible new students, allowing old students the chance to visit and exchange news, and providing the motivation for me to tidy up and regard my work with a fresh critical eye.
For the tenth anniversary of Surrey Artists Open Studios, Sue will be bringing out her old sketchbooks and portfolios, so that visitors will be able to follow her ten-year journey and explore her creative process.
- Surrey Artists Open Studios, which sees over 400 artists and craft makers exhibiting in over 200 venues, runs from Saturday June 5 to Sunday June 20. For more information, visit the website: www.surreyopenstudios.org.uk
