TWO men who first met at the Croydon Advertiser newspaper have got together to produce a childrens book that will raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
The story of a bear called Cheshire, the book is written by John Henty and illustrated by Alex Noel Watson, who still lives in Purley.
The book has the added attraction of an accompanying CD, which has been specially recorded by the actor Martin Jarvis, famed for his recordings of the Just William stories, and the Jeeves and Wooster tales by P.G. Wodehouse. Jarvis, like Henty, was born in the borough and educated at Whitgift School in Croydon.
The Royal Marsden is building a centre at its Sutton hospital specially for children and young people who have cancer and all proceeds from the sale of Cheshire the Cheese-Loving Bear will go to the charity.
- Cheshire the Cheese-Loving Bear! is published by Pomegranate Press at 7.95, and can be ordered on-line via www.royalmarsden.org.
