From Scandi-style cottages to rock star retreats here are some of our favourite staycation locations in the county

One for... Fans of Rock ‘n’ Roll

Rock and roll to its very core, Rhapsody has played host to Genesis, The Police and Queen, who have all either stayed or played here during the 1970s and 1980s. A utopia of surreal garden sculptures, topsy-turvy architecture and glass-like pools, the six-bedroom property has fallen head-first through the rabbit hole and landed in the heart of ‘Wonderland’. Settled in rural Haslemere, this exclusive country house with outdoor heated swimming pool, yoga studio and sunken hot tub, is a luxury self-catering home worthy of any Mad Hatter’s tea party.

Rhapsody can be booked through Unique Homestays with prices starting from £8,250 per short break (three nights). Two well-behaved dogs are welcome to stay at the property for an additional £60 per pet per stay.

One for...Outdoor types

From the outside, The Merry Harriers pub may look like any other traditional country pub in Surrey but it’s much more than that. Behind this cosy pub sit five shepherd’s huts surrounding a pond with views of the Surrey Hills. Each with its own entrance, outdoor log fire pit and indoor log burner. There are also six garden rooms, each with its own entrance and views of the llamas in the neighbouring field, which you can take out for a trek along the stunning local trails of The Greensand Way should you wish – they’ll even carry your picnic hamper for you. Dogs are welcome in some of the rooms with dog beds, bowls, treats and toys supplied.

Shepherd’s huts from £195 B&B per night, llama treks from £55.20 per adult/£27.60 per child (aged 8-13).

The Landmark Trust's Oxenford GatehouseThe Landmark Trust's Oxenford Gatehouse

One for... History lovers

Deep in the Surrey countryside sits a gatehouse built in the 19th century by one of the country’s most influential and talented architects, AWN Pugin. Situated on the edge of a farm in Elstead, amongst other pieces of Pugin’s great work, Oxenford Gatehouse sleeps four people and still serenely surveys the coming and goings of a working farmyard. It’s packed with plenty of decorative features, including a spiral staircase and open fire, and is available to book through The Landmark Trust.

Prices starting from £343 for four nights.

One for... Scandi-style living

Little Foxmoor Barn has been designed with meticulous detail and offers a calm yet refined hygge-esque stay, where birds chirp in the trees, there are countless footpaths to explore and views are ones to remember. Hidden away from urban life, in ancient woodland near Leith Hill, the two-bedroom property has a gorgeous country-style kitchen and open plan sitting room with French doors looking out over an uninterrupted vista of the countryside – an idyllic spot to sit back while the children play. There’s also a Scandi-style wood-framed sauna at the adjacent property, which can be booked on arrival for an additional fee.

Book through Mulberry Cottages with prices from £797.80 for three nights.
