Did you know?

The golf cabinet...
In 1914, three days after the start of World War One, at a meeting attended by Sir George Riddell, Lord Kitchener thundered that the British people should give up playing and watching games. Two days later, Riddell was golfing at Walton Heath with David Lloyd George. Some commented that the war is obviously being conducted from Waltons 19th hole.

House in a house...
Walton Manor incorporates the remains of a stone-built 14th century house, which is visible internally; it is the only house of its type in Surrey.

Milling around...
A valued part of the areas heritage, Tadworth Windmill is situated nearby. This Grade II listed building, reputedly the tallest surviving Post Mill in England, may date back to the 17th century. It has since fallen into disrepair and is not open to the public.

The Coal Posts on the heath marked the territory where the City was entitled to levy duties on coal and wine. These taxes were then used for improvements to the City and the area surrounding it.
