This year at Buckham Fair, alongsideall the new treats that we have foryou to enjoy, are our wonderfulregulars. As a local fund raising eventBuckham has grown hugely over theselast five years; along the way we haveaccumulated fabulous support fromwonderful people. No event can existwithout the help of so many people, andwe are no different.

One of the first groups to join in with

the fun of Buckham Fair is somewhat

unexpected given that they ride scooters

and we ride horses! The Dorset Knights

Scooter Club contacted us to say that

theyd collected some money from

various events theyd held or attended,

and wondered if they could come over

on the day and present their collecting

tins to us. We all loved the idea and the

deal was done. They arrived in the

afternoon, when the pony show had

finished, on their incredibly shiny

scooters, Martin Clunes always gets to

sit on one, and then they do a fabulously

noisy, lap of honour. If youve never seen

this Buckham tradition, look out for them

this year. We like the diversity of our

show and you dont have to ride a pony

or own a dog if you want to join in!

Another story from last year that theCommittee all loved was the wonderfulRace Horse Rescue team. Theyapproached us on the morning of theshow to tell us that theyd brought someof their horses with them and wondered ifthey could have 5 minutes in our arena totell their story. They had brought, amongst others, Supreme Glory, whohad come second in the Grand Nationaland won the Irish Derby one year. Hewas rescued, in a field, days from deathby Race Horse Rescue. Of course wegave them a slot in the show ring to tellthe crowds about their work andintroduce some of their horses; they wereso popular that we have booked them inagain this year. You will all have thechance to see their gorgeous horses andlearn about what this fabulous charity do.

Talking of wonderful charities this years Buckham Fair is raising money for Julias House Childrens Hospice. This wonderful Dorset charity does so much to help sick children and their families, both at their lovely hospice in Corfe Mullen, and also by sending their carers into the homes of some 100-plus families across the county to provide respite care in the home. Every penny raised will help them continue their work in Dorset. Buckham Fair is on Sunday 19 August at Buckham Down near Beaminster. For more details visit buckhamfair.co.uk
