Illuminated trails

See some of Surrey’s top attractions as you’ve probably never seen them before, by enjoying one of the illuminated trails that are set to light up 
our county this winter. From Alice Holt Forest near Farnham to Hampton Court Palace at East Molesey, there’s plenty of places to feel enchanted this festive season.

Wednesday December 3 to Saturday December 20, 8pm

Dick: the Adult Panto

It’s the age-old tale of Dick Whittington, but not quite as we know it... Join your friends and colleagues for this year’s adult panto from the Guildford Fringe team behind last year’s sell-out run of Cinders. Strictly over-18s only. Tickets: £14.50 adults; £12.50 concessions.

Candlelit Christmas

Rekindle some old-fashioned Christmas spirit and visit the always magical Petersham Nurseries for one of their two annual evenings of candlelit shopping and carols. Look forward to festive gift inspiration, handmade wreaths, gift wrapping, decorations and hampers, as well as delicious mince pies, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine.

Saturday December 6, 7pm

An Evening Concert with Russell Watson

The UK’s best-selling classical artist Russell Watson will be visiting Guildford Cathedral with a very special candlelight Christmas concert with choir, as part of a unique tour taking in some of the nation’s most beautiful cathedrals. Tickets: £39.50 and £55.

Tingle Creek Festival

Showcasing many of jump racing’s equine stars over two days of top-class racing at Sandown Park, the Tingle Creek Christmas Festival sees the pinnacle of the racecourse’s jump season. The Saturday, Tingle Creek Chase Day, features the Tingle Creek Chase, which is named after one of the most famous horses of the 1970s.

Tuesday December 9 to Sunday December 21

REFINED: Surrey Guild’s 21st Birthday

Each of the makers in the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen cooperative was invited to produce up to three exceptional pieces to showcase their craft for this touring public exhibition: 40 members have responded with some truly stunning designs and these will be displayed at The Lightbox in Woking this month.

Tuesday December 9, 7.30pm

The Rat Pack: Live from Las Vegas

Take a trip back in time to the glamorous, glitzy nights of Las Vegas in the late 1950s and early 60s where, in the company of three of the world’s most popular entertainers, the fabulous Burrelli Sisters and The Rat Pack Big Band, you will relive the music of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin in a special festive version of this hit show. Denbies Ice Ball

Celebrate the season with a delightful evening at Denbies Wine Estate, enjoying a three-course meal and live entertainment. Tickets: £58. Denbies also hosts a Vintage & Collectables Fair on Sunday December 7; a Christmas tea dance on Sunday December 14; a late-night shopping event on Monday December 15; and A Taste of New Year dinner on Wednesday December 31.

Sunday December 21

Judgement Day

A brand new and testing team challenge, Judgement Day is the UK’s first team-only obstacle course. With 10 miles featuring 25 obstacles, underground tunnels, mud, swamps and dizzying heights, this is for anyone looking for the ultimate challenge. Price: £240 for a team of eight.

William Hill Winter Festival

A must for any jump fans during the festive season, the William Hill Winter Festival is a two-day racing event at Kempton Park racecourse. Boxing Day features the festival’s flagship race, the William Hill King George VI Chase – won by greats such as Desert Orchid, Best Mate, Kauto Star and, most recently, Silviniaco Conti.
