The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh joined Guildford Cathedrals 50th anniversary celebrations at a service of thanksgiving before heading across our county to open East Surrey Colleges new 63m campus in Redhill.

Half a century since she attended the cathedrals consecration on Stag Hill in May 1961, the royal couple were joined by children from Queen Eleanor's junior school in Guildford.

Later in the day, their cross county travels took them to meet students training to be bricklayers and mechanics, and see displays of theatrical make-up in the hair, beauty and spa areas of the college.
