Held at harvest festival time in late September, Surrey Farm and Food Week is a programme of farm walks and events designed to help bridge the gulf of understanding between farmers and the public. Here’s our pick of this year’s highlights...

Vineyard and Distillery Tours
Enjoy a guided tour of Albury Organic Vineyard and the new Silent Pool distillery next door, which is powered by a 1970s steam boiler from Liverpool Docks. Contact email@example.com.

Farm Walk and Farm Shop
Join a farm walk with Wildcroft Rare Breeds – and meet their rare breeds of pig and sheep, plus goats, rheas, chickens, ducks, turkeys and bees – at Clear Barn Farm in Puttenham. Contact wildcroftrarebreeds.co.uk.

Dairy Farm Walk
Visit Goldstone Farm at Polesden Lacey for trailer tours to see the herd of Ayrshire cattle named the 2014 Surrey County Show Reserve Dairy Champions in their stunning parkland setting. Contact 07587 189135.

Jerseys, Bats and Beer Farm Walk
See pedigree Jersey cows in their robotic milking parlour, identify bats and visit the new microbrewery at Pierrepont Farm in Frensham. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Medieval Farm Walk
A historic farm with a 15th century barn, Hardwick Court Farm at Chertsey was once the manorial court. Discover medieval field systems, vintage machinery, heavy horses, cattle and sheep. Contact 01932 571237.

The Secret Life of the Farm Shop
Visit Fanny’s Farm Shop at Gatton Bottom for elevenses with a tour of the vegetable and cutting-flower gardens. Fanny will share her farming secrets at the fascinating new farm museum. Contact 01737 554444.
Friday September 26, 2pm
Fruit Farm Walk
At Tuesley Farm in Milford, they produce strawberries, blueberries, gooseberries and redcurrants over 469 acres. In 2012, the farm was named the first Waitrose Demonstration Farm. Contact 01483 410940.

Take a guided tour of the 25-year-old Greyfriars Vineyard at Puttenham, which produces classical Champagne grape varieties. Contact email@example.com.

Wonderful Watercress Tours

Food Fair and Tunnel Tour
