The new 60 million hotel in London Road, the Radisson Edwardian, is set to open its doors this July (since put back to late September).
The 185-room, four-star hotel, situated where the historic White Horse Hotel once stood, is the first venture for the group outside the cities of London and Manchester.
As well as a spa with swimming pool, gym, two restaurants (designed by the group behind The Dorchester, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and The Savoy), two bars and a business centre, the hotel will also include 40 private luxury apartments.
Plans for the multi-million development were first mooted around eight years ago but faced fierce opposition from residents concerned about traffic chaos and lack of parking in the town centre.
However, the hotel was given the go-ahead as it was thought it would boost tourism and help rejuvenate the town.
