As the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede moves ever closer in 2015, the Queen has been announced as patron of the Magna Carta Trust.

It is planned that Her Majesty will be present at Runnymede on June 15, 2015, as well as participating in other events in the run-up to the anniversary during the course of the year.

On behalf of the trustees, I am very proud that the Queen has graciously agreed to be our patron as we approach the 800th anniversary of this momentous day in British history, the sealing of the Magna Carta, said chairman of the trust, Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury.

A bid has been made for the anniversary date to become a public bank holiday, to be called Magna Carta Day, and progress can be followed at www.magnacarta800th.com.
