Where is Surrey Heath?
In the north west of Surrey, encapsulating Camberley and Frimley andextending to Deepcut, Mytchett and Frimley Green withWindlesham, Bagshot, Chobham, Bisley,West End and Lightwater.Much of the rural area is within the Green Belt and includes extensive areas of heath and woodland. There are five sites of Special Scientific Interest in the borough, four of which are part of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area of European importance as a habitat for certain endangered bird species.

Camberley Theatre holds a variety of events from film and comedy to good old-fashioned drama. The Windlesham Club also has shows from a local drama group. The Atrium complex in Camberley contains the boroughs only cinema. Music events are often held at Camberley Theatre and at Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. There are also occasionally Jazz events at the Sun Inn in Chobham.

Eating out

Nothing beats a good pub lunch and in Surrey Heath there are plenty to be found. The Bee pub in Windlesham recently featured in the Michelin dining out guide, receiving a Bib Gourmand - goodfood at moderate prices. Pennyhill Park Hotel & Spa in Bagshot is not only the training camp of the England rugby team but is also home to The Latymer restaurant, which is Michelin starred. Meanwhile, in Camberley, there is the award winning Linden Restaurant in the Frimley Hall Hotel & Spa, as well as several new chain restaurants at The Atrium.

Surrey Heath is a great place for golfers. While a short drive down the A30 brings you to the famous Wentworth Golf Club in Virginia Water, there are plenty of courses in the borough too, including Windlesham Golf Club, Camberley Heath Golf Club and Pine Ridge near Lightwater. Meanwhile, Queenwood in Ottershaw is one of the most exclusive clubs in Surrey, if not the country. At the other end of the scale, there is a pitch and putt at Frimley Lodge.

Get fit

There are several gyms in the area as well, including Lightwater Leisure Centre in the heart of the country park, and the Arena in Camberley.

There is a lot of history to be found in Surrey Heath, with the landscape itself providing evidence of inhabitation in prehistoric times. You can investigate this in detail at the Surrey Heath Museum in Camberley where there are exhibits of local history. There is also a small museum in Chobham which is open throughout the year. The presence of the military forces in Surrey Heath is recognised with the Royal Logistic Corps Museum in Deepcut, and the Army Medical Museum in Mytchett displays a history of medicine in the Armed Forces.

As you can probably guess from the name, Surrey Heath is home to a lot of heathland. This includes Lightwater Country Park, where High Curley Hill is one of the highest spots in Surrey and on a clear day you can see the London skyline as well as the North Downs and Ascot Racecourse. Other areas of beauty can be found at Windlesham Arboretum, and Rapley Lake to the north west of Bagshot. The Basingstoke Canal runs past Frimley and Mytchett, and the canal centre in Mytchett has information on the wildlife that inhabits it.

In the night, Camberley High Street is also popular for its pubs. On the other side of Camberley is the rock venue, the Agincourt. Beepys Night Club at Lakeside Country Club in Frimley is open weekly for over 25s.

Spa life

Bagshots Pennyhill Park boasts one of the leading spas in Britain, with 21 therapy rooms and a private VIP suite. Another stunning spa can be found at Frimley Hall Hotel.

The best shopping in Surrey Heath can be found in Camberley, where there are a variety of high street shops as well as a permanent farmers market. The village of Chobham contains a number of boutiques.
