The countryside is full of amazing hidden facts:
- Farmers manage 75% of the total land area of the UK- nearly 20 million hectares - or 40 million football pitches - and more than 85% of the countryside
- There are 500,000 km of hedgerows in England and Wales- that's enough to go 12 times round the earth
- Bees are vital for food production- introducing bee colonies to orchards can increase fruit yield by around 50-80%
- Just one teaspoon of soil contains millions of organisms, such as fungi and bacteria that help feed plants.
On the Surrey/Sussex border, Lower Roundhurst Farm will be hosting farm walks, demonstrations, stalls, rides , bouncy castle,BBQ and more. From 10am to 4pm.
Meet sheep and this years lambs and take advantage of plenty more things to seeand do, including guided tours by landrover pulled trailer around the 90-acre farm, mini beasting and children's craft making activities. There will also be information about local self-guided walks, special sites to visitand volunteering opportunities. Donations welcome forthe Downlands Trust. Open 11am to 4pm. No dogs.
Meet farmer Mark Banham and the farm animals, including baby lambs and goslings, as well as cows and calves and our native breed pigs. See sheep shearing and working sheep dog demonstrations. Learn about wool and environmentally sustainable farming. Go on a tractor and trailer ride, a guided farm walk with Surrey Wildlife Trust ranger Bob Crompton, or do the self-guided nature trail. Enjoy a farm-reared burger fresh from the BBQ. From 10am until 4pm. No dogs in the farm yard and on a lead on footpaths.
Farm produce for sale, BBQ, trailer rides and farm tours will take place on the day. Sherbourne Farm is a family run working farm situated in the Surrey Hills, next to Silent Pool in Albury, and open to the public. From 11am to 6pm.
