From woodland in Esher to swans at Walton’s Cowey Sale and bluebell carpets at Painshill, a new book showcasing the best of Elmbridge will hit the shelves in autumn.

Landscape photographer Astrid McGechan and students from senior schools in Elmbridge set out to capture the visual delights their borough has to offer.

The result will be a beautiful companion piece to The Elmbridge Hundred project, a community partnership set up in 2009 to celebrate the centenary of Elmbridge Museum.

“Ten of the images in the book are the winning entries of a photographic competition, which was open to students from Elmbridge’s senior schools,” says Astrid. “They submitted some wonderful work illustrating the variety of life and land in the borough.”

The book will be launched with a three-week exhibition at the Riverhouse in Walton-on-Thames in November 2014, and the opening night for the exhibition will be held in aid of Princess Alice Hospice in Esher.

A crowdfunding campaign is currently running on the Crowdfunder UK platform to raise further funds for the production of the book and the setup of the exhibition. Visit
