A Bronze Sculpture in Homage to Matisse

Wellers Auctioneers in Guildford has been instructed by Eddie Powell, the owner and curator of the award winning Sculpture Park in Churt, to present a 300 lot auction entitled: The Eddie Powell Collection: 20th Century, Modern & Contemporary Sculpture and Decorative Arts on Saturday November 29 from 11am at its Guildford showroom.

Features of the highly covetable ‘lots’ which will come from The Sculpture Park and Eddie Powell’s other business, Miscellanea, also in Churt will include:

• 1947 Craft Council Chair. Estimate: £600 - £800

A chair designed for the 1947 Ideal Home Exhibition. Made to Incorporate the two C’s of the Craft Council when Gordon Russell was chairman of the council. 120cms high x 160cms wide x 70cms deep.

• Harp Chair by Jørgen Høvelskov. Estimate: £600 - £800

Koch is manufacturing and distributing the original Harp Chair, designed by Arch. Jørgen Høvelskov, who was part of the golden age of Danish furniture architects and designers.

• A Bronze Sculpture in Homage to Matisse, ‘The Dance’ by Wilfred Pritchard, Bronze, Signed W.P. and numbered 1 from an edition of 3, 307cms diameter. Estimate: £20,000 - £30,000

Wilfred Pritchard is a sculptor that has a very eclectic approach to artwork, his work looks at the witty, macabre and the controversial. He has produced a number of works that have seen skeletons in bizarre, humorous and iconic situations.

• ‘Bird Man’ by Austin Emery, 95cms high. Estimate: £1,200 - £1,800

‘Birdman’ is a pale shadow of his former self. Once upon a time he was full-bodied, flesh and blood with the life-force of several beasts, no doubt enslaved to serve the needs of London’s people.

• ‘Eryngium’ by Ruth Moilliet, Steel, Toughened Glass and Eryngium Petals, 48cms square by 16cms deep. Estimate: £2,000 - £4,000

Moilliet produces highly finished metal and glass sculptures inspired by the plant kingdom. In her work she aims to draw the viewer’s attention to both the overall spectacle and individual beauty of a flower.

Most of the items will be available to view at Wellers showroom on Bedford Road, Guildford, Surrey GU1 4SJ but approximately 30 of the bigger sculptures will be at The Sculpture Park. Jumps Road, Churt, Farnham, Surrey GU10 2LH

Viewing: Saturday November 22 to Saturday November 29, Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm - open late night until 8pm on Thursday November 27. The auction on Saturday November 29 starts at 11am (with viewing from 9am).
