Life is non-stop in Haslemere over the coming weeks from the towns historic charter fair and the Conan Doyle Weekend via the Diamond Jubilee.
Haslemere Charter Fair takes over the High Street and West Street on Monday May 7 from 1pm to 5pm. Organised by volunteers, it has been running every two years since it was reinstated in 1984 having first started in 1394.
Then, the towns Diamond Jubilee celebrations kick off on bank holiday Monday June 4 with a carnival procession. Leaving the High Street at 2pm, it will wind its way through bunting bedecked streets, arriving at Lion Green in Weyhill for a Coronation Cream Tea Party for over 3,000 people (tickets are 12 per family, 5 per adult and 3 per child). A torchlight procession will later march to Gibbert Hill in Hindhead to light the Diamond Jubilee Beacon, as part of Britains Beacon Chain.
And, finally, a tribute to the genius of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who lived for many years in nearby Hindhead. Set to run from Friday June 15 to Sunday June 17, the Conan Doyle Weekend will include a special walk, talks by leading experts and The Baker Street Banquet at Conan Doyles favourite hostelry, The Fox and Pelican in Grayshott, among many other events.
