Oh, we do like to be beside the British seaside, don’t we? Fortunately, this summer there’s a way to avoid the traffic jam nightmares and a scorching journey to the coast - and it can be found surprisingly close to home, in the tropical climes of, well, Guildford

The banks of the River Wey will once again be transformed into Guildford-on-Sea in August, with a pleasure beach for all the family springing up slap bang in the centre of town.

Next to The Electric Theatre on Onslow Street, Guildford’s urban beach is free to enter and open daily from Friday August 12 to Sunday August 14, 10am to 6pm.

There will be bucketfuls of sand, deck chairs on hand, balloon giveaways, beach huts, free face painting and candyfloss, making it the ideal place to have fun with the kids after a busy day at the shops.

Away from the beach, Guildford-on-Sea will also feature summertime entertainment up and down the High Street and hot promotions from the town centre’s shops, cafés, restaurants, and businesses.
