Town or city...
Although there is a Guildford City Football Club (as well as similarly named swimming and cricket clubs), the official answer is that in the UK a town has to be granted city status by the British monarch, which has not yet happened. While many believe a university and a cathedral is enough, this isnt actually the case. Officially.


Life and live...
G Live joined the towns Yvonne Arnaud and Electric theatres in providing top class entertainment all year long it has approximately 190 miles of electrical cabling, which could stretch from Guildford to Shrewsbury.


Looking glass...
Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland, spent much time in Guildford over his life and had a family home at Chestnuts, near the castle. He died there in 1898 and is buried in the Mount Cemetery.


An angel...
Consecrated in 1961 in the presence of the Queen, Guildford Cathedral, the angel on the hill, is a prime example of Big Society in action with a buy a brick campaign needed for its completion when it was built.
