Magical adventure...
Epsoms latest 3million attraction has seen Horton Park transformed into a magical-themed adventure park called Hobbledown, which is based on the tales of the Hobblers.


A pinch of salt
In the 17th century, a spring on the common was discovered to be rich in mineral salts and this led to the town becoming popular as a spa resort. The rich waters were supposed to hold health-giving properties, giving rise to the now famous Epsom Salts.

The Epsom races were put on the map when the Derby was run there for the first time in 1780. The event plays host to many well-known celebrities and personalities and the Queen arrives on the Royal Train at Tattenham Corner railway station on race days.


Making a point...
In 1913, suffragette Emily Davison killed herself by jumping out in front of the Kings horse on Tattenham Corner at the Derby (the notebook in which Sergeant Frank Bunn wrote his eyewitness account of her death can be found at the borough museum, Bourne Hall, in neighbouring Ewell).
