World class art
In the last years of his life, between 1881 and 1883, Thomas Holloway, a self-made multi-millionaire whose fortune had been made in patent medicines, paid well over 80,000 (equivalent to more than 6million in todays terms) for the 77 paintings that make up the universitys Royal Holloway Collection.

A place of greatness...
Among a host of distinguished owners, Great Fosters lists Judge Doderidge who was solicitor general to King James I, and Sir Robert Foster who lived there in 1639. It also hosted Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles.
