Now in its 109th year, the Claygate Flower & Village Show has been running for longer than the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and takes place on Saturday July 14.

The show kicks off at 1.30pm at the Claygate Recreation Ground and visitors will be treated to around 2,000 amazing exhibits, ranging from cookery to crafts, flowers to photography.

The reason for the success of the Show is the strong community spirit, particularly from the children, who contribute nearly half of the exhibits and put on some amazing entertainment, says Barry Fitzpatrick, Claygate Flower & Village Shows chairman.

New this year is the fancy dress parade, with Jubilee or Olympic themed outfits tipped for success, and the great balloon race, which will see a swarm of red, white and blue bio-degradable balloons released into the skies with a prize for the farthest flight.

  • Tickets are available from Johnstons newsagent in Claygate (adults 3.50; children 50p) or on the gate (adults 5; children 1). Children under five go free. Visit www.claygateflowershow.co.uk.
