Did you know?


Donkey rescue...
One of the UKs oldest donkey sanctuaries, the Lockwood Donkey Centre moved to its current site near the village in the mid-1960s. Today, as well as providing a sanctuary for donkeys, it also rescues and rehomes horses and ponies that have been badly treated.


Burning nights...
The historic bonfire night, which began as the mere burning of brittle remains from the Victorian Coopers Stick Factory. This evolved into a Guy Fawkes Night celebration attracting up to ten thousand people annually.


A glass apart...
The stunning Ramster gardens open in the spring months, but the estate hosts events throughout the year. The oldest part of the house dates from the early 17th century, when it was built by a wealthy glass maker; Chiddingfold was then at the centre of the glass making industry in England.


All at sea...
Villagers maintain close contacts with HMS Chiddingfold, or Cheery Chid as she is colloquially known in the Royal Navy. She is one of the smallest ships currently in service.
