The winning formula...
A site in Chessington, now operated by Formula 3 team Carlin, was once home to the Brabham Formula 1 team. It was the place from where then team boss Bernie Ecclestone and star designer Gordon Murray launched Nelson Piquets successful challenges for the 1981 and 1983 Formula 1 drivers championships, and built race-winning F1 cars for the likes of Niki Lauda.

Doctor Doolittle...
History states that entrepreneur Reginald Goddard, a flight lieutenant in the Great War, was driving past what is now the Chessington World of Adventures site when he saw the house and land for sale. He had been looking for a place to house and show off his collection of exotic animals to the public and opened Chessington Zoo there in 1931.

Once a country village...
Chessingtons proximity to London and Kingston has resulted in its once rural village status disappearing completely.

Long gone...
Chessington Hall, a 16th century country house owned by Samuel Crisp, a close friend of Fanny Burney, the novelist, was sadly demolished and the site is now a housing estate.
