Completed in 1909, the famous Abinger Hammer clock celebrates the role of the blacksmithing industry in the village's past and was built in honour of Thomas Henry Farrer, who established much of the village.

On your bike...
The town sign is a bit of a giveaway that the areas beautiful surroundings continue to provide an attractive destination for cyclists it was donated by cycle tourists and includes cut-outs of bikes through the ages.


Something fishy...
The family business at Tillingbourne Trout Farm on Guildford Road smokes its own fresh trout, all caught and processed on site, as well as eels and Scottish and wild Alaskan salmon. They also sell smoked fish pats and game.


Splendid blooms...
The Surrey Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society was founded in 1964 and now has just over 100 members. They hold five shows a year, with four at Abinger Hammer Village Hall, plus the main show at Toyotas European headquarters near Epsom Downs.


Literary Surrey...
Surrey was home to EM Forster for over 40 years. As a child he visited his aunt at West Hackhurst (a house designed by his architect father) in Abinger Hammer. Later, he inherited the lease and lived there with his mother until her death. In 1946, he was forced to leave when the landlord refused to renew the lease.
