Celebrate the bravery and dedication of the British Armed Forces at Sandown Park racecourse’s historic Royal Artillery Gold Cup this Valentine’s Day.

The day’s proceedings will start at 10.30am, when a special military parade, welcoming servicemen and women home, will proceed along Esher High Street.

The parade commences from the top end of Esher High Street and will march down the main High Street straight to Sandown Park racecourse.

A salute will be taken by the Master Gunner, plus the Mayor of Elmbridge and Dominic Raab MP for Esher and Walton will also be present.

This year the parade will consist of marching troops from 1st Regiment Royal Artillery, who returned from Afghanistan before Christmas. This will be the final time that the parade includes troops returning from Afghanistan.

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will also be on parade, as will the Royal Artillery Band, and cadets from the local Surrey Army Cadet Force.

The feature race – the Royal Artillery Gold Cup - is one of Sandown Park’s oldest races having been first run in 1863 and then moved to Sandown Park for the first time in 1878.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Sandown Park will be giving racegoers the opportunity to propose on the Winner’s Podium after the feature race and they will give a complimentary bottle of champagne as congratulations.
