We’ve gathered some fabulously festive events to get you in the Christmas spirit – and out of the house

A Christmas Carol streamed (17-27 Dec)

Legendary actors Penelope Keith and Brian Blessed will star in an online adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas story, A Christmas Carol. Adapted for an online audience by Naylah Ahmed and produced by the Guildford Shakespeare Company and Jermyn Street Theatre.

• Richmond Park Christmas carriage rides (5 Dec - 3 Jan)

For a regal Christmas experience, try a festive carriage ride around Richmond Park. Take in the beautiful winter flora and fauna of the park while snuggled under a blanket in a horse drawn carriage.

The experience lasts 90 minutes with a 60 minute ride through the park, mince pies and refreshments and an exclusive stable tour. Tickets are £450 and the carriage can seat six people.

Wintershall Nativity Walk (18-20 Dec)

Wander through the beautiful Wintershall Estate for its nativity walk this Christmas. Over three days, all the characters from the traditional Christian tale of the birth of Jesus Christ – including donkeys and sheep – will be around as you traverse the rolling Wintershall estate.

Book your time slot online, £35 for a family group of up to six people.

Epsom Choral Society Christmas concert (19 Dec)

In its 99th year, the Epsom Choral Society was determined not to let the lockdown get in the way of their Christmas concert. They have been rehearsing online during the lockdowns and have now decided to stream a live concert.

The free concert will be streamed on the website from 5pm. Donations welcomed.

Christmas Woodland Workshop at Birtley Woodland Art Space (19 Dec)

Set in the beautiful Birtley Estate in Bramley, the Birtley Woodland Art Space is putting on a Christmas themed woodland workshop. Enjoy wood carving, pyrography and willow weaving with a Christmas twist.

Choose a half or full day workshop and enjoy hot chocolates at the campfire or explore the woods after your workshop activities.

We’ve gathered some of the best Christmas markets that are taking place in Surrey this winter. Some will be in person and some online.

Winter Holiday at Watt’s Gallery (1 Dec – 3 Jan)

Enjoy a creative family day out for the Christmas holidays at Watt’s Gallery - explore the woodlands and try your hand at Christmas tree photography.

There will be seasonal food in the café and the contemporary gallery will be open for viewing.

Wreath Making Workshop at Worplesdon Place (9 Dec)

Sip on mulled wine while creating beautiful festive wreaths at Worplesdon Place. Hosted by Flowers by Liz, this is a unique way to decorate your home this Christmas.

Book your tickets online, £45. The event is from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

Christmas at Kew light trail (4 Dec - 17 Jan)

This event has been postponed from its original date of 18th November until 4th December, but this will still be a magical Christmas event. “A roster of internationally acclaimed artists will adorn the gardens with a feast of art, light and music at every turn; visitors can expect bursts of colour and enchanting optics as they explore the UNESCO World Heritage landscape after dark.” - Read all about the illuminated trail here.

Talk: Christmas food and drink (14 Dec)

Join food historian Sylvia Levi and Richmond Local History Society member Simon Fowler at Duke Street Church in Richmond for a talk on the history of Christmas food and drink.

Free to members, £4 on the door for non-members.
