The photographer dubbed ‘the man who shot the 70s’, Mick Rock is coming to Guildford to talk about his lifetime photographing some of the biggest stars in music.

He will be doing a Q&A at G Live on Monday September 9, introducing his new book, TRANSFORMER, a collaboration with Lou Reed for Guildford’s Genesis Publications.

On the evening, which starts at 7.30pm, he will also be talking about his work with Bowie, Queen and Pink Floyd founder, Syd Barrett.

Containing some never seen before photos, TRANSFORMER tracks Reed’s career and reveals his many faces.

Rock describes Reed as ‘a relentlessly original artist and a very great agent provocateur’ but who is the real man behind the showbiz mask?

The photos capture him in the studio, on stage, in hotels and with friends Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Andy Warhol.

Mick Rock will also answer questions about the outrageous antics of the past 40 years, including sharing a flat with Syd Barrett before Pink Floyd became famous.

“I never felt like an outsider,” he says. “A lot of these artists had been through ‘altered states’. That was the key, and a dangerous key to their evolutionary thinking.

“They were rock and rollers, yes, but they were also artists and I saw them like beautiful, magical woodland creatures – like chimeras. Exotic.”

• Tickets for An Evening with Mick Rock are £10 and are available from
