SUR DEC CHRISTMAS STOCKING FILLERS

With Christmas fast approaching, here we take a look around the county for some inspirational gift ideas with a special Surrey twist! Certainly beats another pair of socks...

Local lavender...

To ease the stresses and strains of the festive period, why not pick up a Pure Organic Lavender Soothing Pulse Point, a pocket- sized remedy using organic lavender oil from Mayfield Lavender in Banstead. Perfect for destressing after all that Christmas shopping – and a lovely idea for a little gift or stocking filler. Only £5, they are available from Mayfield Lavender’s Christmas shop, which is open from Saturday November 30, or from mayfieldlavender.com.

Touch wood...
Your partner may be up with all the latest technologies but how about adding the natural touch to their new tablet? With this beautiful carved oak holder made in the Surrey Hills, they can watch their movies or picture slideshows in style. It’s one of a number of bespoke wooden products crafted by the Thursley-based company, Make Me Something Special. Priced from £55 with a personalised engraving, find out more at makemesomethingspecial.co.uk.

A Surrey scene...

Head to Shere and buy a ‘little’ piece of Surrey for your loved one. You may need a sack rather than a stocking to deliver it but the Treacle Gallery’s mini panoramics (27x13 inches) are sure to make an impression. Priced from £125 to £175 depending on the frame and edition count, viewpoints such as Leith Hill are among the 20 or so panoramic pictures available. You can find out more by popping into the shop in Shere or, alternatively, visit their website at treacleshere.co.uk.

Surrey tipples...

Why not enjoy a local wine or beer by the fireplace on a crisp wintery evening this Christmas? The Surrey Life Food & Drink Producer of the year, the Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham, offers the aptly-named Advent Ale (£28.50 per case) and Santa’s Wobble (£25.99 per case) among their bottle range. Alternatively, you could also get a couple of vouchers for their brewery tour (£12.50 per person). For a full selection of Surrey wine and beer producers, visit surreylife.co.uk.

Hand-made crafts...

As part of Surrey Artists Open Studios’ Art for Christmas event, the Six Do Christmas exhibition will feature six top artists and craftspeople at Amberley in Godalming. There, you’ll be able to pick up jewellery, paintings, prints, linocuts, books, glass and more – plus one of these great mugs from Maureen Farr, which are priced at £17.50 and based on her own artworks. The studio is open from Friday November 29 to Sunday December 1 and more information can be found at surreyopenstudios.org.uk.

Adopt an animal...

If you’re looking for an unusual gift for a friend, relative or even yourself, then why not ‘adopt’ one of the animals at the British Wildlife Centre near Lingfield. Adoption raises funds to help feed and care for all their animals. The cost is from £30 to £40, depending on your chosen critter. Find out more at britishwildlifecentre.co.uk.

Via Hollywood...

Take a tour of Surrey via Hollywood with one of these hit films: War Horse features Bourne Wood and Wisley Airfield, The Holiday features Godalming and Shere and Skyfall features Thursley Common. Visit surreylife.co.uk to find a whole collection of other Surrey film locations you could also choose from.

Artisan chocolate...

Perfect for any high quality stocking, these hand-made artisan chocolates and nougat come in a range of delicious natural flavours from Dorking-based Patagonia Bombon. A box of 18 round flavoured chocolates (approximately 160g) costs £5.80. More details of other sizes available can be found at patagoniabombon.com.

High times...

For a present that will be remembered for years to come, join the jet set and experience the life of high-flying business gurus and millionaire rock stars. Based out of Redhill Aerodrome, The London Helicopter takes passengers on a unique sightseeing tour in the skies over Surrey and the capital. Normally £129 per seat for a 30-minute flight, find out more at thelondonhelicopter.com.
