Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain return to Jodrell Bank Observatory for another series of the BBC’s Stargazing Life. Here in Surrey, there are plenty of events being held to coincide

Thursday January 9, 6pm to 9.30pm

Marvel at the stars

Royal Holloway, University of London has been chosen to host BBC Two’s hugely popular programme Stargazing Live. The University will be opening its doors to staff, students and the public for a spectacular event as part of a nationwide celebration of astronomy. The event will be hosted by comedian and science presenter Helen Arney. The event is free but ticketed.

Wednesday January 15 and Thurday January 16, 6pm to 8pm

Stars at Clandon

Visitors to Clandon Park’s magnificent Palladian mansion will be able to view galaxies through powerful telescopes and experts from Guildford Astronomical Society will be on hand to give advice and answer questions. Dr Chris Bridges from Surrey Space Centre will be speaking about latest developments in space and his work at the Space Centre. Cost: adult £2; child £1.

Friday January 24, 6pm to 9pm

School Stargazing

Members of Astronomy 4 Everyone will be on hand with a wide range of their telescopes set up ready to guide and show children, parents and families around the night sky from Loseley Fields Primary School. This event is free.

Observing Evening

Frensham Heights School, Farnham

Farnham Astronomical Society offer the opportunity to observe the Moon, Jupiter, nebulae and galaxies through telescopes of various sizes at Frensham Heights School. Exhibition of members’ images and a program of astronomy related talks will take place indoors. This event is free but voluntary donations are appreciated.

Back to College

Held in conjunction with Kings College Guildford, George Abbott School and Astronomy 4 Everyone, this free public event at Kings College for the Arts & Technology will showcase the wonder of the night sky. This event is free.

School Stargazing
