As I struggled out of the shop with two crying children, two bags containing shoes that I was not sure that were the right size and a large bill, I wondered why buying childrens shoes was always so difficult and left me feeling that I had been duped, or at least, not given the best of advice.
I had spent years waiting for my number to come up whilst desperately clutching the ticket I had taken from the machine, hoping that the children would remain in the shoe buying zone essential for this type of adventure.
Eventually this dissatisfaction bred a desire to try and improve this situation, so in the midst of a finical depression, the worst weather conditions in years and on the eve of the Olympics I opened Little Angel Shoes!
I had studied happily for months with the Society of Shoe Fitters learning about the anatomy of the foot (26 bones, 250,000 sweat glands in a pair of feet, probably the most neglected part of body but the most used) and unhappily all about the problems that poorly constructed bad fitting shoes have on our childrens feet.
I ploughed through books explaining how shoes developed through the ages and discussed different theories regarding what shoes types were the best for the next generation.
Field trips to shoe manufacturing factories, very few left in England now, confirmed the feeling that good quality shoes are paramount for our little ones feet. This knowledge was endorsed by talking to many Chropodists and Podiatrists who report that they are consulted by increasing numbers of parents with children in their teens with very real problems caused by poor footwear.
So my quest began, to find a lovely shop, not on a busy high Street (safety for little ones) and an even larger more extensive search for beautifully designed, well crafted and well made shoes, of course they had to gorgeous!
So here we are today, located in the centre of beautiful historic Godalming, just off the High Street in Angel Court (opposite the wonderful Caf Mila- how good can it get!). Selling the most amazing selection of childrens shoes, sourced from America, France, Spain, Holland, Portugal, Italy- oh the list is endless.
For pure indulgence the offering from Bob & Blossom can only set every girls heart racing (mainly mums), tutus for twirling and super tough t-shirts for those young men.
Hatley raincoats, wellies and umbrellas are perfect for our English winter, light weight cosy, waterproof and apparently everlasting.
The brilliant Yo Dennis has designed jewelry for us, all the pieces are unique and so reasonably priced (psst dont tell her) excellent stocking fillers for Christmas.
Just arrived from Sweden Shepherd Slippers amazingly super soft sheepskin in the smallest sizes; perfect for the tiniest of feet to keep them warm.
We have just introduced a gift voucher scheme which will be excellent for thoughtful but busy grandparents who want to buy something special.
Wed love to see you anytime, please call in for a chat or to have your childrens feet professionally measured.
