The latest attraction to inspire visitors at Applegarth Farm in Grayshott, is Alison Orchard, acclaimed fine artist, who has moved her art studio on site.
She relocated to the farm last September and can be seen painting and developing her large scale landscapes and seascapes from her studio space outside the restaurant. Her popular art classes also now take place in the Creative Cabin at Applegarth.
Alison is a local artist who enjoys painting en plein air and capturing the changing colours of the surrounding landscapes. She is perhaps best known for her atmospheric paintings of seascapes and landscapes working primarily in oil, acrylic and mixed media, with gestural mark-making, surface texture, rich colour and generous palette-knifed paint. Her work has a growing following with paintings exhibited at The Royal College of Art, London and at various art fairs, with exhibitions in South East England, London, Guernsey & Portugal. She was recently selected as one of 20 international artists to be chosen as a Golden Artist Educator and in 2012, was nominated for annual inclusion in Who’s Who in Art.
“I am really enjoying painting in my new studio, surrounded by chickens, dogs and the stunning Hampshire countryside. It’s great to have people popping in to see how my paintings are developing” Alison said.
She has inspired several locals to commission paintings and is currently painting a collection of work for a winter exhibition at The Art Agency gallery in Esher.
Torn between the dramatic coastlines of Cornwall and spectacular countryside, Alison is spoilt for choice when it comes to inspiration. Her studio is open from Tuesday – Friday 10am – 3pm, occasional weekends or by appointment. There is always a collection of original paintings on display, as well as smaller drawings and original prints for sale. Alison has had such a busy year exhibiting that there has been little time to spread the word of her new studio space, so she hopes her local admirers will come and find her in the lovely new setting.
