Plans to build a five-star luxury underground hotel on green belt land in Hersham have been dismissed following a public inquiry.


Elmbridge borough councillorsoriginally rejected the application to build the hotel at Hersham Golf Club in July last year but developers, Claudel Venture Holdings Ltd, appealed the decision.


The 198-room hotel, which would have included a spa, restaurants and bars, had faced strong local opposition and was rejected on Monday May 9 by planning inspector David Prentis.
