Stone Circle supply bespoke stone products for the house and garden as well as commercial properties. Here they offer their advice on choosing stone for your home.

Why stone?
Hard wearing, beautiful and luxurious, it is hard to beat stone wherever it is used in the home. From kitchen work surfaces to bathroom vanity tops, table tops, fireplaces and of course floor and wall tiles, stone is perfect for use all over the house and garden.

But how do you find your way around the different types of stone such as granite, limestone, marble and travertine, and engineered stones? Not all of them are suitable for all uses as they have different qualities.

Granite for kitchen counters
For example although some types of marble can be used as a kitchen counter top, most types are not recommended as they are softer and more liable to scratch than granite which has great hardness and very low porosity meaning that it is not as prone to staining as other stones, although naturally any spills should be promptly mopped up. Granite still remains the best choice of stone for your kitchen worktop. It is available in a myriad of colours, shades and markings depending on where it was formed.

Marble for bathrooms
Marble is however ideally suited to use in bathrooms where the many different colours and veining make a luxurious statement once fabricated into vanity tops, bath surrounds, tiles and shower trays.

Limestone for tiles
Limestone also makes excellent tiles and is used extensively for flooring and wall cladding. Travertine is a form of limestone which is very popular for use in bathrooms as basins and even bathtubs and of course as tiles. It looks beautiful in a tumbled finish for a soft worn look.

Manmade for uniformity
Engineered stones such as Silestone, where particles of quartz or marble have been mixed with resin and colouring, started out as an alternative to granite for kitchen worktops for people who wanted a more uniform look than you get with natural stone where veins and patterning vary according to the seam from which the rock is quarried. They are now also often used in bathrooms for the same reasons.

stoneCIRCLE for all the above
There are hundreds of different colours and types of stone, so you might need the help of an expert to find your way around them. stoneCIRCLE has been making stone products in its state of the art Basingstoke factory since 1968, and works with architects and interior designers on some of the most prestigious homes around the South East.

The company is the place to come for excellent quality, attention to detail and sound advice about natural stone. Every piece is tailor made for the room in which it will be situated in your choice and finish of stone.

The two showrooms in Basingstoke and Newbury are filled with examples of the sort of products that they manufacture such as a bathroom in perfectly book matched Carrara marble and worktops in different types of granite and engineered stone. The Newbury showroom also has a huge indoor gallery of different stones and the sales people there can advise you on the best ones for your home.

The company is also an approved supplier of Chesneys fireplaces and stoves, examples of which are on display in the two showrooms, as well as top end kitchen appliances with brands such as Everhot, Wolf, Gaggenau and Sub-Zero in a working kitchen display.
