Packed full with everything from truly gorgeous tableware to heart-patterned dining chairs and pretty jewellery, The Lemon Tree in Cobham is every girl's dream! JANET DONIN pays a visit

Name of store: The Lemon Tree
Address: 6 High Street, Cobham, Surrey KT11 3DY
Tel: 01932 868689

Background ...

The owners of The Lemon Tree, Sara Peterson and her partner Ivor Rao, opened the shop eight years ago. "We bought an existing business and were given loads of help from the original owners," says Sara. But with her keen eye for design and flair for seeking out the unusual, she has built up a unique stock of merchandise. Now the couple have not one but five shops in Surrey: Banstead, Reigate, Dorking, Cheam and Cobham, and each one is a treasure trove of irresistible goodies to add interest to your home. No wonder they were finalists last year in the premier awards for the gift industry, The Greats, in the Best Multiple Retailer category.

Style ...

Sara has eclectic taste, which is reflected in the wide variety of products. For the home, there's everything from bowls and mugs patterned with colourful sweets by Splash to the more traditional Gabriella Miller pottery and contemporary pieces by Cath Kidston and Emma Bridgewater. Nearby, there's a selection of girly jewellery and stationery designed to appeal to trendy five-year-olds like Sara's daughter Natasha and for the tiny tots you'll find the softest cuddly toys. Then there's the, gifts for men, wedding presents and pretty toiletries... the list goes on!

Specialises in ...

Painted wooden French-style furniture, curvy dressing tables and heart-patterned dining chairs, which Sara says can fit into both traditional and more contemporary homes. There's also the dramatic wall canvasses printed with iconic images of Marilyn Monroe or patterned with a riot of poppies. Table accessories from a variety of companies are special favourites. Right now, the spotted china from Emma Bridgewater catches the eye.

Best buys ...

Photo frames are essential in every home, but if you're looking for something really special, check out the very clever Umbra metal frame that holds 28 photos.

Worth a visit ...

Because Sara has thought of a gift for every member of your family. And if you're feeling neglected, she has a 'Wish List' that you can fill in with your favourite things to give to your partner or friend as a little reminder.

Favourite product ...

The selection of pretty tools for the home or garden that make even the dullest jobs so much more fun.
