Having spent many happy summers at her parents second home in the South of France, Hannah Jones, above, developed a love for beautiful pieces of traditional French furniture.
Five years ago, following a career in fashion and retail, she put her French connection to good use by opening a shop selling items of furniture from that region, and much more besides.
Hannah travels to France several times a year to find just the right pieces then paints them in her signature colours of grey and stone. Flashes of colour come in the shape of unusual cushions patterned in turquoise or pink.
The airy, double-fronted store has an elegant feel, with the furniture arranged into comfortable groups. A curvy Louis XV bed, topped with simple linen and quilts, nudges a large armoire and ornate chest. Then theres the family-sized dining tables with natural pine, oak or intricate parquet wood tops, complete with displays of pretty table linen, china and glassware. At the back of the shop is also a small area featuring childrens furniture, blankets and toys.
Romantic upholstered bedsteads, ornate chests, pretty armchairs and dressers all in the Louis XV style. To complement the furniture, do check out the gorgeous quilted bedspreads and embroidered throws in shades of cream or grey or patterned with toile de Jouy designs. On a smaller scale, you will find candles, vases and lamps, together with pretty jewellery, unusual cards and wrapping paper.
A large console table, which has a rustic top, made from a wardrobe door that dates back to the time of Henry VIII. Its a one-off piece but typical of the quirky and very attractive items of furniture to be found at The Bothy.
Worth a visit
Because whether you are a Francophile or not, youll find unusual pieces of furniture to add character to your home as well as a whole range of tempting treats for yourself.
