Name of store: OKA
Address: 25 West Street, Haslemere, SurreyGU27 2AP
Tel: 01428 648644
Web: www.okadirect.com

Background...
Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, OKA was established by three stylish ladies (above from left: Annabel Astor, Lucinda Waterhouse and Sue Jones) as a mail order catalogue. The company has now developed into a retail shopping experience with 12 stores nationwide and a great website.

Style ...
Glancing through an OKA catalogue, you'll recognise a unique style that's actually quite simple - with a glamorous edge. But it's not until you visit this store that you can really appreciate the quality, comfort and craftsmanship of the furniture and accessories.

The showroom is divided into 12 room settings, featuring living, dining and bedroom furniture. The sofas and most of the easy chairs are upholstered in natural cream-coloured linen. I love the huge Lara ottoman, which could be the talking point of your living room. The dining furniture is available in natural or painted woods and look out for the burnt oak circular dining table, which is rather special. The bedroom ranges vary from smart modern to classic or country styles.

And for summer, there's also beautiful garden furniture that's ideal for alfresco entertaining.

Specialises in ...
A host of accessories to complement the core furniture lines. The elegant lamps caught my eye together with simple silk cushions in shades from pebble and grey blue to zingy rose pink and apple green.

The tableware is varied, including the classic Faenza china with its distinctive hallmark, the pretty white Portuguese pottery and the Chinese style Ming and Quing in blue and white.

I particularly liked the new Melanise glass range with its subtle pearl white, ruby or black stripes and the chunkier round-based crystal glasses.

If you love natural fabrics, take a look at the linen or silk-taffeta ready-made curtains. There's also a bespoke curtain making service.

Favourite product ...
The pampering pet products including stylish baskets with faux suede or fur cushions and the bag-shaped pet carrier for puppies, cats and smaller pooches.

Worth a visit ...
because at this store there is also a dedicated area featuring ex-showroom samples and discontinued lines, all in near perfect condition for as much as 50 per cent discount.
