With her cool, contemporary designs, Abbey Emmerson is in hot demand. JANET DONIN meets the Byfleet designer...

For the past eight years, interior designer Abbey Emmerson has seen her company Trend Designs go from strength to strength, partly because her approach is always fresh and adventurous.

I like to aim for the wow factor, which I think sets my style apart from anyone else, she says.

To achieve this, the Byfleet-based designer uses stunning light fittings, statement pieces of furniture, gleaming stainless steel radiators and gorgeous cushions and spreads.

Im also a great believer in clean lines and no clutter, she adds. Everything should definitely have its place, so good storage always features in my designs.

A room has to reflect the owners personality, of course, but I like to think I will give it something special as well.

In my view...

What do you love most about your home?
It says everything about my style white, clean and minimal. Its all on one level, open-plan and such a social space.

How would you describe your preferred design style?
Contemporary/minimal, clean, crisp lines, glamorous and sparkly.

Whats the best thing about your job?
That it gives me freedom and works perfectly with my family; plus, I love the endless shopping and meeting clients.

How do you like to relax?
I like to relax by eating out, spending time with my husband and three gorgeous children, gardening and shopping.

What couldnt you do without?
My family, laptop, mobile, vast shoe and bag collection and my 4x4.

Which is your signature colour?
White.

Whats the next thing you will buy for your home?
Something for the garden and probably a cushion or two.

Which designer has influenced you most?
The designer Kelly Hoppen for her styling and also the architect Tadao Ando.
